THE owners of an Arrochar guest house have applied for permission to change the use of the property so that it can no longer be used as visitor accommodation.

Kevin and Anne Bax are the owners of Fascadail House on the village’s Church Road, which has been operated as a guest house for 30 years.

The property was put up for sale in March 2020, but in an application to the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority, Mr and Mrs Bax say there have been no offers to buy it as a guest house since then.

A report by MH Planning Associates of Helensburgh says there has been interest from a prospective buyer in purchasing the property for purely residential use.

The report says: “The loss of the Fascadail Guesthouse would reduce the overall accommodation capacity in the area which has already experienced closures of accommodation in 2020.

“With that said, if it could be demonstrated that it is not possible to continue with the existing business due to lack of demand and lack of interest in its current use class then the proposal could potentially be supported in principle.”

The Claymore and Tarbet Hotels in the area closed last year but are set to reopen under new ownership.
