A TALENTED young musician who attracted the ire of some – though notably not all – residents in Helensburgh town centre last summer has gone on to rub virtual shoulders with a West End star by performing a duet at a charity concert.

Singer and bagpiper Mark Morrison sang Les Misérables ballad Stars alongside actor Mike Sterling on April 2 as part of a digital Movies to Musicals charity concert.

The 15-year-old and Mike, who has played Jean Valjean in the smash hit musical as well as the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera, sang together to raise money for Acting for Others, the umbrella organisation for 14 different theatrical charities, and the Glasgow Philharmonia youth orchestra.

More than half of the show’s £500 target was raised during the show’s premiere on YouTube.

Mark hit the Advertiser headlines last July when he was approached by police after they approached him to ask if he had a busking licence following a complaint about the music he’d been playing and the songs he’d been singing in Colquhoun Square.

The Alexandria teenager, who had appeared on TV’s The Voice Kids only the previous month, was initially unsure whether he’d ever be welcomed back to Helensburgh – but after an outpouring of social media support, he returned two weeks later.
