MEMBERS of the Helensburgh public are being urged to show their support for the local branch of a national charity celebrating its 75th anniversary.

Christian Aid Week runs from May 10-16 and although the Helensburgh group’s usual annual fund-raising events - such as a community swim, football, netball, fayre, quiz and concert - are unable to go ahead, there are other ways to help the organisation’s work.

The charity has rebuilt homes destroyed by natural disaster, fed the hungry in times of famine and helped refugees in times of war, and now those who live in the world’s poorest countries are fighting to survive problems brought on by both the Covid pandemic and climate change - meaning they need support now more than ever.

Volunteers are regularly spotted doing street collections in Helensburgh and local residents are being encouraged to donate during Christian Aid Week next week either online via christianaid.org.uk/appeals/key-appeals/christian-aid-week or via an envelope (any envelope will do) marked ‘Christian Aid’ and delivered to Helensburgh Parish Church via the Colquhoun Street letterbox.

You can also join in online events which include a quiz tonight (Saturday, May 8) at 7pm and a concert on June 9 at 7pm - more information can be found on the Christian Aid website.
