PEOPLE in Helensburgh and beyond are being asked to help shape the design of a planned new walking, cycling and wheeling path between Helensburgh and Garelochhead.

Ice Cream Architecture (ICA) is working on plans for a scheme to support active travel in the area, and in particular to promote non-car options for workers at Faslane, by providing a dedicated, and segregated, route which it’s hoped would significantly improve the current provision in the area.

At present 'Regional Route 42' on the National Cycle Network combines on-road stretches and roadside paths on the eight-mile journey along the A814 between central Helensburgh and Garelochhead.

ICA is planning to ask people in the area for their views before drawing up route options and concept designs for an improved route later in the year.

They hope to set up an 'engagement group' to discuss ideas for improvements, and have also launched an online survey to gather people's early opinions.

Sarah Frood from ICA said: "Following identification of multiple route options after community and stakeholder engagement, the project team will develop concept designs and supporting documents, including appropriate place-making opportunities.

"As face to face meetings are restricted at present we would like to form a representative group from the community that alongside the public engagement activities will be our point of contact to discuss options, ideas and concepts as they develop."
