POLICE patrols have been stepped up in Helensburgh after two teenagers were injured in a brawl between two groups of youths near Hermitage Academy at the weekend.

A group of youngsters were reportedly walking on a section of the Three Lochs Way at Camis Eskan Road at around 6pm on Sunday evening when they encountered a second group of youths.

Police say a disturbance then ensued between the groups, which resulted in a 15-year-old girl sustaining a bloody nose.

According to officers, a 15-year-old boy was also injured after he was struck with a blunt implement which left him with a four-centimetre cut to his head.

The injured boy was taken to hospital for treatment by a parent, and the wound was glued.

Helensburgh officers are investigating the incident and have appealed for any witnesses to come forward as they try to trace the other young people who were involved.

Police say uniform and plain clothes patrols will be increased this week in an effort to discourage people from gathering in the area and from becoming involved in anti-social behaviour.
