A KIND-hearted Kilcreggan local will run a marathon this weekend in an effort to raise money for vital cancer support.

Veronica Ferguson, known to her friends as Roni, is taking on the massive challenge of running the 26.2 miles along the Kilcreggan Rosneath Peninsula this Sunday, May 30 to raise money for Vale of Leven Macmillan Cancer Support to help support local cancer patients and their families.

Roni will be joined by her friends at certain points of the run, each of them running three miles.

So far Roni has raised more than £1,800 of the £2,000 target set up, and is looking for support from Helensburgh residents.

On her fund-raiser page, Roni said: “There is no one who has not been affected by either cancer and now Covid and lockdown.

“The health of our bodies and our minds have been challenged like never before. I am running for MacMillan Cancer Support because I became a volunteer during lockdown and learned what great work they do and how it is entirely dependent upon our donations.

“Covid has had a devastating impact upon this and so I felt compelled to run and raise money in support of the incredible people who offer their services to those in need.

“A world full of this kindness would be a wonderful world indeed.

“Some of my lovely friends are each running three miles with me to encourage me along and help raise money so please give what you can for this really important organisation.”
