A NEW grass court tennis season for Helensburgh's Gordon Reid gets under way in London on Friday.

The former Hermitage Academy pupil will face his doubles partner Alfie Hewett in the quarter-finals of the men's wheelchair singles at the Lawn Tennis Association's cinch Championships at the famous Queen's Club.

It'll be the 31st time the pair have met in international competition as the two Brits play for the right to take on either Dutchman Tom Egberink or Belgium’s Joachim Gerard in the semi-finals.

The draw for the doubles competition at the tournament has yet to be made, but Reid and Hewett are likely to be hot favourites to add to their remarkable run of recent success – which saw the duo secure victory in the final of the French Riviera Open last weekend, just days after their 11th Grand Slam triumph – a British tennis doubles record – in the French Open final at Roland Garros.

The Queen's Club tournament – and the female equivalent, the Viking Classic in Birmingham, also starting today – are the traditional warm-up events for the year's third Grand Slam competition, at the All England Club at Wimbledon, with the wheelchair competition at SW19 this year taking place from July 8-11.
