TWO primary school pupils have lent their singing voices to a special choir recording session at a famous recording studio.

Rhu Primary pupils Henry Walker, 10, and eight-year-old Dulcie Walker, auditioned to be part of a choir singing Welcome Home, which was written by two service children, Emily Rawlins and Lewis Elliott, to capture the feelings of armed forces families.

The song, part of a wider ‘Song of the Service Child’ campaign, is the anthem of the UK’s annual Armed Forces Day, taking place this Saturday.

It was awarded first place in the 2020/21 Never Such Innocence International Competition, which had entries from almost 100 countries.

And a recording of the song was recently completed at London’s Abbey Road studios, where The Beatles famously recorded most of their 210 songs, with Henry, in P6, and P3 pupil Dulcie singing as part of a unique choir of only 20 pupils from across the UK.

Rhu Primary teacher Michelle Cowan told the Advertiser: “As Henry’s teacher, I’m so very proud of him and Dulcie for singing confidently with other like minded children, as well as being part of a fabulous opportunity to support Armed Forces Day.”
