A DEVELOPMENT of 10 new homes built to strict energy-saving standards in a Helensburgh and Lomond village has been completed.

Argyll Community Housing Association (ACHA) has just finished its first Passivhaus development in Garelochhead, with the modern houses designed to maximise energy efficiency and reduce fuel cost to a minimum.

The construction template is the same as that of the Hermitage Park pavilion in Helensburgh, which is set to open fully as a cafe later this summer.

Ten new family and special needs homes, built by Helensburgh builders Stewart and Shields, have now been completed at Linn Walk in the centre of the village, with the overall contract value standing at just over £1.7 million.

Alastair MacGregor, ACHA’s chief executive, said: “In these challenging times it is brilliant to get these homes completed.

“It is our first new build to come off site since Covid-19 hit us, an achievement I am really proud of.

“I hope our 10 new and existing tenants and their families will enjoy living in their new homes in the beautiful village of Garelochhead.”

On receiving his keys one tenant said: “My wife and I are really looking forward to moving in to our new bungalow at Linn Walk.

"Both of us are disabled and we can now enjoy sitting outside in our own back garden.

"Having no stairs to climb is a real treat. It has come at a great time in our life.”

Passivhaus buildings offer a 75 per cent reduction in space heating requirements compared to standard practice for UK new builds, helping the construction industry achieve carbon reduction targets set by the UK Government.
