THERE’S no shortage of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors if you live in the Arrochar area – and P7 pupils at the village’s primary school have certainly been making the most of the chance to get out from behind their desks recently.

The pupils enjoyed an amazing adventure week which saw them take part in a range of adrenaline-fuelled activities including gorge walking, caving, kayaking, canoeing, jumping off Tarbet Pier (under safe supervision of course!) and even climbing The Cobbler together.

The pupils said a big thank you to local outdoor instructors Ross Cadie and Neil McLaren for making the week’s events possible and leading them in their activities.

And that’s not the only reason the pupils have been leaving the classroom – or at least the traditional indoor classroom – behind of late.

They also took part in training sessions to become young sport leaders, led by Martin Caldwell, co-ordinator of the Active Schools programme in Helensburgh and Lomond with LiveArgyll.

The pupils put the skills they had been taught into action and led each of the school’s other classes in a variety of outdoor sporting activities, including dodgeball, capture the flag and an obstacle course – and they also organised and ran sports days for each class.

The class ‘Ministers for Sport’ also organised water slides, water balloon fights, an ice bucket challenge and camp fire building for their class.

The school sports day champions this year were Ruby and Tristan. Well done to all involved!
