A MAN has been taken to hospital after a crash on the A82 near the Erskine Bridge in which a car fell down an embankment. 

Emergency services attended at the accident on the northbound carriageway, near the Erskine Bridge, at around 11.45am on Monday.

One man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

The northbound carriageway was completely shut at Old Kilpatrick for around four hours, affecting traffic heading from Clydebank towards Dumbarton and Helensburgh, with motorists asked to avoid the area.

The road reopened to traffic shortly before 3pm.

Amey, the maintenance company responsible for the route, said on Twitter that the accident involved a single vehicle.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 11.25am on Monday, July 19, we received a report that a car had gone down an embankment following a crash on the A82 near the Erskine Bridge.

"A man has been taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital."
