HEARTFELT messages of thanks have been issued to the people in Helensburgh and beyond who stepped in to help ensure a dream wedding day for a woman with terminal cancer and her partner.

An online crowdfunder was launched just 11 days ago aiming to give Angela Gregory and Murdo Maclean their dream day with the help of Wedding Wish Makers.

And on Tuesday, July 20 the couple tied the knot in beautiful sunshine on the lawn outside the Rosslea Hall Hotel in Rhu.

Launching the appeal for a venue via Facebook on July 11, Suzanne Stevenson from Wedding Wish Makers, a non-profit organisation set up last year to organise and fund weddings for people who are terminally ill, said: "Angela, 46, was diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer in March 2018.

"After numerous treatments, surgery and chemotherapy, Angela was given the devastating news a few days ago...she only has weeks to live.

"Angela and her partner Murdo have been together for 12 years. Murdo proposed to Angela a couple of nights ago and they want to get married ASAP."

Within two days the Rosslea had stepped in to provide a venue, and in the space of just a week all the remaining pieces – dresses, shoes, jewellery and accessories for the bride and her bridesmaids, kilts for the groom and groomsmen, rings, transport and more.

Talented young bagpiper Mark Morrison provided music at the ceremony, and the Motown Brothers did likewise at the reception.

Wedding Wish Makers' GoFundMe appeal brought in a total of £3,235 in donations from kind-hearted members of the public.

In a post on the organisation's Facebook page after Tuesday's sun-kissed ceremony, Suzanne paid tribute to all those involved in giving Angela and Murdo their special day.

She wrote: "Today, Angela and Murdo get married and it’s all because of you!

"To all the suppliers, who donated their time and services to make this possible.

"To everyone who donated, this paid for the venue, meals, drinks, wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses etc

"To The Rosslea Hall Hotel for giving us a massive discount, by only covering their costs of the food and drink. Lynn and her team have bent over backwards to accommodate us.

"To everyone who shared our posts, reached out to people, tagged suppliers and just did everything they can to get us here today.

"Thanks again you amazing people."

Also on Facebook, alongside pictures of the happy couple, a spokesperson for the Rosslea Hotel said: "Our hearts are breaking and bursting with pride at the bravery of this amazing lady.

"Congratulations Angela and Murdo, the new Mr and Mrs MacLean.

"I just love how our industry pulled together to deliver a wonderful day at such short notice for such a special couple."
