A MAD Hatters’ Tea Party is being held in Helensburgh next month to raise money for the fight to eradicate polio across the world.
Organised by the Helensburgh Garelochside Rotary Club, the event will take place at the Lomond School sports hall in Rhu Road Higher on Saturday, August 14 from 2pm to 5pm.
The day will feature a quiz, raffle, stalls and children’s activities as well as teas, coffees and cakes, and the organisers say that fancy dress is encouraged but optional.
The World Health Organisation says that while reported polio cases have fallen 99.9 per cent since 1988, the disease remains a “public health emergency of international concern” – and that 1,226 cases of all forms of polio were recorded around the world in 2020, compared to just 138 in 2018.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased from Stewart Travel on Sinclair Street. Adult tickets are £10 each, while children are free.
