HELENSBURGH Football Club’s 2011 squad are looking forward to making their debut in a brand new Argyll and Bute league this season - and will look the part in doing so thanks to a generous sponsorship from a local company.

Professional landscaping firm WCC Group have agreed to sponsor the club’s strips for the fifth year in a row.

Burgh will compete against clubs from Oban, Tarbet, Campbeltown, Lochgilphead and Islay in the first ever 2011 Argyll and Bute League.

Teams will play in home and away games over the coming months with Helensburgh’s fixtures taking place at Rhu Amateurs’ DCF Park, further strengthening the recent partnership between the clubs.

Coach Gordon Brodie said: “Covid had such a big impact on all children and I was worried how they would react to coming back and basically starting fresh after so long away from organised football.

“But the players have blown me away with their attitude and willingness to get better.

“They have shown a great determination to put Covid to the back of their mind and get back to what they love doing.

“Playing in this league gives the kids an opportunity to play against different teams from what they are used to and also to be able to travel as part of a team on away days. It’s a challenge we are looking forward to very much.”

Brodie also thanked WCC Group for their ongoing generosity, adding: “To have the backing of such a massive and well respected company is massive for the kids and we’d like to thank Vinnie, Chris and everyone at WCC for their continued sponsorship and support for all these years.

“I would also like to thank Brian Murdoch of Murdoch Gardening Services and Donna and Marc from Military Party Planners for their very generous donation of training jumpers for the players.”
