THE owner of a Helensburgh dance school says she and her young pupils are delighted to be back in action after the lockdown.

Dancers from the town’s LCI Dance Centre won plenty of cheers and applause from an enthusiastic Colquhoun Square audience at the Summer in the Square event on August 28.

Their teacher, Gemma Penfold, told the Advertiser: “It was an absolute pleasure to be asked to dance at Summer in the Square.

“Our dancers were all set for their yearly show in March last year but, unfortunately, we went into the first lockdown that week.

“We were all gutted. We, like all the local dance schools, have spent most of the last year doing our classes on Zoom. Being back together, in classes, as one big, happy dance family has been so great for everyone.

“The kids need the interaction and thrive on it, the parents need a break every now and then and I, as a teacher, need my students in my life!

“Summer in the Square gave the kids something cool to work towards and they were high as kites on the Saturday – anyone watching could see they were just delighted to be performing in front of an audience again.

“Their wee smiles said it all.

“It was just as important for the parents to see them back on stage too, as some of the dancers have lost confidence as a result of the lockdowns and self isolation, so to see them enjoying themselves with their friends was wonderful for the parents to witness.

“The event was very well run and organised and we are very grateful to have been part of it.”
