TWO more lives have been lost to Covid-19 in Argyll and Bute, according to the latest official statistics.

The figures released today (Wednesday) by the National Records of Scotland cover the period from Monday, September 26 to Sunday, October 3.

The two deaths in the area come after the four deaths confirmed last week - the highest number of deaths in the area for a single week since February 2021.

During the seven days to Sunday, October 3, there were 17 Covid-related deaths in Glasgow, 15 in Edinburgh, and 13 in South Ayrshire.

The number of deaths in Argyll and Bute in which Covid was mentioned on the death certificate now stands at 30 since the beginning of this year, and 116 since the start of the pandemic.

For the week to October 4, Argyll and Bute had 222 confirmed positive Covid tests, giving a rate of 259.9 positive tests per 100,000 people.

By comparison, for the week to September 25 there were 291 confirmed positive tests in the area, a rate of 340.6 per 100,000 of population.
