A BRAND new series of concerts organised by Helensburgh Music Society gets under way in the town this weekend.

After the society was forced to abandon its 2020-21 season because of Covid, a new and exciting series of five concerts begins on Sunday, November 14 when the Lomond Brass Ensemble takes to the stage at the Tower Digital Arts Centre.

The well-known group is made up of instrumentalists from the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Scottish Opera.

Their programme will reflect the many and varied musical genres from the 16th century to the present day.

For many years Helensburgh Music Society has been attracting internationally acclaimed musicians to the town and providing exposure for very talented up and coming young artists.

This year’s line-up features international prize winners from the UK and overseas, including pianist Graeme McNaught and the Fitzroy Quartet.

A spokesperson for the society said: “It promises to be a very varied and entertaining season with something for everyone’s tastes and perhaps new discoveries along the way.

“The society believes in making high quality musical experiences accessible for everyone with modest ticket prices and a most appealing concert venue.

“To be able to hear some of our best known instrumentalists and vocalists without having to travel beyond Helensburgh town centre is a tremendous opportunity and that the area’s younger residents can do so for less than the cost of an ice cream cone is truly remarkable.

“You can be assured that every effort will be made to make your visit a safe and comfortable experience.”

All measures following the government’s guidelines for Covid will be in place.

Tickets are priced £12 for adults, £5 for students and £1 for under-16s and are available at helensburghmusicsociety.org.uk– and a season ticket is also available, at £40, giving a saving of 33 per cent over all five concerts.

This Sunday’s concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets can also be bought on the door from 6.45pm.
