PEOPLE in Helensburgh are being urged to enter a virtual balloon race to raise cash for one of Argyll and Bute’s best-known charities.

The Rotary Club of Helensburgh Garelochside is hoping to attract 300 entries for the second year of its event – with the proceeds this year going to Mary’s Meals, the Dalmally-based charity which combines food provision with education for thousands of children living in poverty across the developing world.

Thirty-five ‘balloons’ have entered the race so far, raising enough money to feed 22 children for a whole school year.

Balloons cost £5 each and must be registered by 12 noon on Monday, December 6 for the start of the race 48 hours later.

A share of the proceeds will also go to the Shelter Box charity, which provides shelter and aid items to families around the world who have lost their homes through natural disaster or conflict.

The race lasts for two weeks and the progress of each balloon can be followed in real time. To find out more, and to enter, check out balloonrace.com/HGR.
