AN UPDATE on the Helensburgh to Dumbarton cycle path project will be given at a virtual meeting to be held next month - and members of the public are being invited to attend.

Argyll and Bute Council's head of development and economic growth, Fergus Murray, will speak about the project during the Zoom event and will answer questions from participants.

The event will begin at 7pm on Monday, December 6 and a maximum of 100 guests will be permitted.

The cycle path plans first attracted government support in the early 2000s, but according to the most recent update to Helensburgh and Lomond councillors, it is not expected to be fully complete until the spring of 2028.

A petition was launched last year by the Cardross Climate Action Network pleading for there to be "no further delays" to the project after cyclist Colin McCourt died in a collision with a car on the A814 west of Cardross in November 2020.

In September members of the council's Helensburgh and Lomond area committee were told that a community consultation on the route of the proposed path through Cardross could be delayed for a third time – prompting one of the village's councillors to observe that the saga "is becoming a bit of a farce".
