PEOPLE living in Helensburgh and Lomond who have fallen behind with their rent – whether to a private landlord or a housing association – as a result of Covid could be eligible for help from a new fund.

Argyll and Bute Council has been awarded funding from the Scottish Government to help people who have fallen into financial difficulty because of the pandemic and who are now finding it hard to keep a roof over their heads.

The Tenant Grant Fund can provide help to people who fell behind with their rent between March 23, 2020 and August 9, 2021.

Tenants and landlords can make applications to the fund, and third parties can also apply on behalf of tenants. who are unable to apply themselves.

Council leader Robin Currie said: “The last two years have been an extremely difficult time and we know that many people are experiencing serious hardship.

“We already do a tremendous amount of work to help people who are struggling with debt and the Tenant Grant Fund will greatly compliment these services.

“The last thing we want is for anyone to face becoming homeless and this funding will help to alleviate some of the pressure for those who have built up rent arrears and are worried about being evicted.”
