RHU Amateurs’ Greater Glasgow squad saw their disappointing run continue as visitors South Lochaber Thistle returned home with all three points from a 2-0 win – though once again there wasn’t much between the two teams.

After an evenly contested first half Thistle found themselves in front just before the half time whistle; a cross into the Rhu box was cleared by Liam Conroy, who then landed awkwardly on his ankle, but as the Rhu lads looked for the referee to call a halt, Thistle’s Andrew MacLean took advantage of the confusion and rattled the ball home from outside the box.

And the second half started in the worst possible fashion for Rhu when Thistle midfielder Dave Forbes took advantage of a loose ball to place his shot just inside the left hand post to give the visitors a two goal advantage.

With their tails up, Thistle looked relatively comfortable for the rest of the afternoon, and Rhu found their already difficult task made even more challenging when Conroy was shown a red card for a last man tackle that wasn’t executed correctly.

Despite that setback, Rhu continued to fight bravely, and in the last 10 minutes of the game they created enough chances to set up a grandstand finish – and, with better luck, perhaps even to equalise – with only some good goalkeeping keeping the visitors’ two-goal lead intact.

Disappointed coach Russell Makeham said afterwards: “We are going though a difficult period and we are all feeling it.

“However the team and results have not been helped by the fact we haven’t managed to start the same 11 players in consecutive games since the season started.

“However we had a good chat about it with the today’s players and hopefully got some issues aired that have been hanging around.

“We all know what we need to do and with only six games played in the league we have a load of opportunities to get ourselves back on to a winning run.

Squad: Gemmell, McConnell, Conroy, Porter, Meader, Sibley, Allan, Dods, McKee, Caldwell, Griffiths, Timoney, Fyfe.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Rhu’s Caledonian League team lost 5-1 at home to Stirling University.
