THE final event of this year’s Tennents Winter League competition took place at Helensburgh Golf Club.

Sixty-seven of the competing players gathered in the lounge for the prize-giving and Winter League dinner afterwards, enjoying a most enjoyable pre-Christmas dinner prepared by the club caterers, SS Catering, before they were royally entertained by fellow golfers and speakers Murray Waddell and Billy Greene, with non-stop jokes and amusing tales.

Don Griffin and his team-mates Dougie Stewart, Alec Dunlop, Sandy Bulloch, Karl Powell, Craig MacPhee, Tim Hughes and Stuart Fraser were then invited to pick up the team winners' prize of an engraved hip flask and a bottle of whisky each after they accumulated 1,006 stableford points from their best six round, 11 points ahead of the chasing nine teams.

Dave Allan and Craig MacPhee also collected their eclectic prize with a magnificent stableford score of 61 points, three points ahead of all the other competitors.

The professional’s raffle followed and the winner, Brian Penman, donated his first prize of an Odyssey putter with a Stroke Lab cover for auction to raise funds for CHAS.

The gathering raised the magnified sum of £175 for this fantastic organisation.

The convenor then gave a vote of thanks to Tennent's for their much valued sponsorship, together with the golf club staff and all the individuals who had contributed towards the success of the competition.

The evening was drawn to a close by club captain Ben Canham.

All reports indicate a most enjoyable evening was had by all and they are looking forward to next year’s competition.
