Helensburgh’s curlers have completed their first competition after returning to the ice following the loss of the 2020 season to Covid.
The Bob Ralph Trophy competition began at the end of September with ten teams aiming to battle through a round robin and then a semi-final.
The rinks skipped by David Forrest and Robin Irvine qualified for the final and a close match was played at Greenacres Curling Centre.
Each of the first seven ends were won by a single shot but with five of these narrowly going to David’s rink, he was in a strong position heading into the final end with a three shot lead.

Knowing Robin’s rink needed a big score in that last end, David instructed his lead Jack Myles to put his stones into the head and Jack delivered them with precision.
A number of efforts from Robin’s rink to remove them were attempted unsuccessfully with David’s rink throwing guards to protect the counting stones. The end finished with these lead stones being the difference and David Forrest’s rink ran out winners by a flattering score of seven shots to two.
This was David’s first competition win as a skip and was achieved with team-mates Ewen Baird playing at third, Peter Procter at two, and Jack Myles at lead.
Club president Robert Cornwell presented David with the Bob Ralph Trophy, named after a popular former club member, on the ice at the end of the match alongside the rest of his team.
