A ROSNEATH woman has reportedly been conned out of hundreds of pounds by bogus workmen – prompting a “stay vigilant” plea from police to other Helensburgh and Lomond residents.

Officers received a report of suspected bogus workmen operating in the Rosneath area on Saturday, December 11.

Two men, both described as being white, approximately 25 years old and each with dark hair and beards, attended at the home address of a female resident of the village.

They are said to have offered to clean the gutters of the woman’s home before defrauding her out of around £200 and not appearing to carry out any work.

Police say Argyll and Bute Council’s trading standards officer has been informed but the identities of the pair have not yet been established.

Police and the trading standards team are now asking the public to be vigilant against opportunists involved in doorstep crime and cold calling in the area.

A Police Scotland spokesman for the Helensburgh and Lomond area said: “Please check the credentials of people who may attend at your address offering any such services and if in doubt don’t hesitate to contact the police who will investigate.

“If there is any hesitation or reluctance on the part of the persons offering these services to provide you with information, you should be suspicious, as reputable businesses do not operate in this manner.

“Such persons rarely travel on foot, and it would beneficial to police if members of the public could note details of any vehicle they appear to be using.”
