POLICE arrested a driver on a busy Loch Lomondside road after he was allegedly found in possession of controlled drugs.

A 22-year-old man from Glasgow was stopped at around 3.20pm on Thursday, December 16 after allegedly being found with no insurance for the vehicle he was driving on the A82 near to Luss.

According to police, he was also found with a quantity of controlled drugs in his possession.

Police said their attention was initially drawn to the man’s vehicle because it was reportedly displaying an illegally formatted registration plate.

A Police Scotland spokesman for the Helensburgh and Lomond area said: “Such registration plates are becoming a more common sight and any person driving or keeping a vehicle displaying a registration plate which doesn’t comply with the legal requirements risks being issued with a £100 fixed penalty by police.

“This penalty can in theory be increased to £1,000 should any such fixed penalty be challenged and the matter ends up in court.”

After being arrested, the A82 driver was taken to Clydebank police station and was later released from custody when in a fit state.

A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.
