FORMAL plans for the re- development of Helensburgh Golf Club and the construction of more than 300 new homes have been submitted - but details will not be available to the public until later this year.

Taylor Wimpey has revealed that an official planning application for the land to the north-east of the town was lodged with Argyll and Bute Council two months ago - in line with the house builder’s target of before the end of 2021.

However, a council spokesperson confirmed to the Advertiser this week that the application is “still in the process of being validated”.

A proposal of application notice was submitted earlier in the year outlining the plans for 307 new homes at the site, while two public consultation events have been held; the latter of which, in July, resulted in members of Helensburgh Community Council stating there was “room for substantial improvement” in the developer’s vision.

Alongside a range of one-five bedroom properties - a quarter of which will be “affordable homes” available for rent through Dunbritton Housing Association - a new clubhouse and par three, six hole golf course is planned, while the existing golf course will be reconfigured.

A spokesperson for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland said: “Our planning application for land at Helensburgh Golf Club was submitted to Argyll and Bute Council in October 2021 and is in the process of being validated by council officials.

“This is part of the standard planning application process and the timeframe to validate a proposal can vary by local authority.

“We will provide an update to the local community via our website and local news sources when the local authority has completed its process.”
