CRAIGHELEN Tennis Club’s annual New Year’s Day ‘first foot’ tournament was enjoyed by everyone who took part – despite the very windy conditions throughout the day.
The tennis balls flew around all over the place, with some amusing shots winning the rallies.
Played over five rounds, with different pairings in each round, each player accumulated an individual final tally of games won.
When play was completed and everyone had enjoyed tea and cakes, Arthur Connolly, who had kept the scoresheet ticking over as the afternoon progressed, announced the winners and presented the unique ‘first foot’ trophies (above) to Kieran Martin and Lisa Fowler.
The distinctive wooden trophies were donated to the club by the late John Hargan on January 1, 2000.
