A HELENSBURGH pub bouncer dubbed "the devil" has been given an extended six year prison sentence after being found guilty of life-threatening attacks on his former lovers.

Kevin Raymond, 28, subjected the women to years of violent abuse at addresses in Helensburgh and his home town in Alexandria.

In one incident he attacked one of the women after she turned up at the now-closed Logie Baird pub in James Street, where Raymond was working as a bouncer.

He was placed on the sex offenders register for ten years for carrying out a sex attack on one of his victims.

Raymond was said to have shown no insight about the impact his crimes had on his victims.

A court was told he had tried to minimise what he had done to the women.

He was banned from having any "direct or indirect" contact with either of his victims until 2032.

At the High Court in Dundee on Tuesday, Lady Haldane imposed a jail term of four and a half years – plus an 18-month extended sentence.

She said: "You have been convicted of five serious charges of verbal, physical and sexual violence against two women.

"It took great courage for these women to come forward and give evidence against you. Your controlling, derogatory and abusive behaviour was not only verbal but physical.

"This was to the extent that your physical assaults were t the danger of each of their lives. Regrettably you appear to show little insight into the seriousness and potential consequences of your behaviour.

"Despite acknowledging much of the factual scenario, you continue to minimise and deflect from your own liability. You've showed no regret for your actions.

"Your actions have had, and continue to have, a profound effect. I note you are keen to avoid a custodial sentence but this is an unrealistic aspiration."

One victim believed she was going to die while the other ended up in hospital after she turned up at the bar where he worked during a shift.

Raymond was found guilty of assaulting both women to the danger of their lives after a trial heard at the High Court in Glasgow.

He was further guilty of sexually assaulting one of the victims, but acquitted of raping her.
