THE organisers of the Helensburgh and Lomond Highland Games have announced that the event is set to return in 2022 after a two-year hiatus – and tickets are on sale now.

The event will return to Helensburgh Cricket and Rugby Football Club’s grounds at Ardencaple on Saturday, June 4 after the pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 gatherings.

Between 10am and 5pm, visitors of all ages will be able to partake in and observe traditional pursuits such as Highland dancing, track races for children and adults, solo piping, and the ever-popular heavy athletic events, including throwing the hammer and tossing the caber.

Sir Malcolm Colquhoun, the head of the Clan Colquhoun, will be the Games’ chieftain.

As in previous years, there will be no parking available at the site, but a free shuttle bus service will operate between the Games venue and the town centre throughout the day.

The history of Highland Games in Helensburgh dates back to 1889, but the more modern version was started in 2007.

Although still in its infancy, it is proving to be a popular event for both local people and visitors to the area – and in 2011 it even featured on the BBC's flagship evening programme The One Show.
