KATHLEEN CORNWELL led her rink to victory in the first main competition of the Druids Curling Club season – the Maggie McAulay Trophy.
With each team playing each other twice over the course of the tournament, Kathleen’s rink of Margaret Morrison, Ann Shanks and Elma Hannah took on Fiona Thomson’s rink while the other front-runners Rosemary Robertson (skip), Marilyn McMeeking, Maureen Morton and Gill Roger faced Roberta Lees’ team.
Kathleen held her nerve in the final end to play a winning draw with her last stone to secure the required points for the win and the overall trophy, while Rosemary’s rink had to settle for second place.
