THE winner of the 2019 Helensburgh 10K women’s race has confirmed her plan to participate in all three events in this year’s Babcock 10K Series.

Fife racer Annabel Simpson won the Burgh event two years ago in 34 minutes and 48 seconds.

But the Glasgow University dental student improved significantly on that time in the ‘Roon the Toon 10K’ in Kilmarnock last autumn, crossing the line in 33.40 and pushing her 5km best down to a very impressive 15.48.

The series is returning to Helensburgh, Dumbarton and Glasgow in May after a two-year absence from the calendar due to pandemic restrictions.

The Helensburgh race will start and finish at Hermitage Academy on Thursday, May 5 at 7.30pm.

The Dumbarton 10K will follow on Thursday, May 12, again at 7.30pm, and the final race of the series, the Shettleston 10K, will be run on Glasgow Green on Sunday, May 29 at 10am.

Kenny Douglas, managing director of Babcock at HMNB Clyde, said: “We wish all the participants – from novice runners to more experienced athletes – the very best of luck at all three races.”

Whilst the leading athletes battle for a share of the £6,000 prize fund for the Series, every finisher will receive a unique commemorative medal at each race, a goody bag – containing different items of merchandise at each event – and the chance to win an array of spot prizes from retail running partner, Start Fitness.

There are also prizes for the first local male and female finishers at each event.
