The Helensburgh Beer and Gin Festival is returning to Helensburgh, organisers have announced.

After a two-year gap because of the pandemic, Helensburgh and District Round Table said their ‘best wee fest in the west’ will be back this spring.

Last year's event was axed because of the organisers' concerns over their ability to cope with the cost of complying with Covid restrictions, while the 2020 festival fell victim to the blanket ban on public gatherings which was in place in the early months of the pandemic.

More than 2,000 people attended the 2019 event at the Helensburgh and Lomond Civic Centre – the 13th such event, and the first time at the new, larger venue, having previously been held at Helensburgh Sailing Club.

The festival began way back in 2006 when it was attended by between 300 and 400 people.

The returning festival will take place at the Civic Centre on East Clyde Street on Friday, May 20 and Saturday, May 21, with further details set to be announced over the coming weeks.

In a Facebook post, organisers said: “We’re back baby. The social event of the year, nae messin’.

"Stay tuned for updates in the coming weeks and months.”

It's the latest big day in the Helensburgh and Lomond events calendar to confirm its 2022 return, following confirmation recently that the Helensburgh and Lomond Highland Games will also be back in 2022.

The Games take place at Helensburgh and Lomond Cricket and Rugby Football Club's grounds at Ardencaple on Saturday, June 4.
