IAN MCARTHUR’S rink took a dominant victory in Helensburgh Curling Club’s Brunton Miller Trophy final.
The competition is designed to give each player different experiences as they move their playing position after every second end in the match.
Consequently the results can often be quite varied but in the final Ian’s rink all played solidly winning a one sided final by nine shots to one.
Their opposition, skipped by Eric Walker, standing in for the unavailable Ewen Baird, could not match the skill of ‘Team McArthur’, who took charge of each end – and in fact the margin could have been even wider as Ian’s rink was lying six shots in the final end before George Kerr placed his last stone in the rings to beat five of those six shots.
The Brunton Miller trophy was presented to the club many years ago by the local law firm and has been played annually for over 30 years.
The winning rink was made up of skip Ian McArthur, Peter Procter at third, Alex Brown at second, and lead Richard Schooling.
As spring approaches and the curling season begins to wind down a number of Helensburgh competitions are reaching their conclusions - more on those in the coming weeks.
