Lomond and Helensburgh’s under-15s produced their best display of the season with a 31-31 draw in a cracking game against Cartha-Cambuslang on Sunday.

Unfortunately the boys were slow to start again this week and gave the opposition an early lead with two well worked tries, one of them converted.

After some strong runs from Ethan, Lee and Mackenzie a quick ball from scrum half David Crombie made its way to winger Shaun Callan who sped off down the wing for Burgh’s first try.

Big turnover balls from Ben and Harry boosted the confidence. Alex Brown and Safwan linked beautifully together at centre to confuse the defence to allow Shaun in for his second, this time converted by Alex.

The opposition came back strong and scored two more tries for a 24-12 lead at the break.

After some inspirational words from the coaches, strong running from Rhuairidh, Harris, Euan and Tom saw the ball worked out to Shaun again, who skipped around the defence for his hat-trick – converted again to give Burgh the confidence and momentum.

Scrum half David had a fantastic game, and at a ruck on the 22 he spotted an opportunity to pick a go and sprinted up the wing for a fantastic try in the corner to tie the score at 24-24.

Some great tackles from Tom McVeigh, Kyle and Jonathan kept the momentum up and soon Shaun was off on one of his unpredictable runs to score under the posts, with Alex’s much easier conversion giving Burgh the lead for the first time.

Unfortunately the opposition almost immediately scored under the posts which left it 31 each at the final whistle.

Credit to Harry and Ben for rucking so well, Rhuairidh for his leadership as captain and Alex for his kicking but player of the match must go to Shaun with four tries - he’d obviously had his porridge that morning!

Meanwhile, the Lomond/Helensburgh S2 (U14) squad, pictured above, won 30-14 away to Oban Lorne on Sunday.

Despite being a couple of tries down Oban were tough opponents, testing the Helensburgh defence throughout, and there was great post match spirit displayed by both teams.
