ADAM CLARK skipped his rink to victory in the final of Helensburgh Curling Club’s James Sharp Trophy tournament – the final competition of the club’s season and effectively the club championship.

David Forrest’s rink had already won the Colquhoun Trophy by finishing top of the round-robin stage, before winning their semi-final to take their place in the final.

Team Clark, by contrast, had only just managed to scrape into the play-offs by finishing fourth in the round-robin section before building some momentum to take their place in the competition’s climax.

The final began tentatively, with Team Clark winning the first end by one shot and Team Forrest taking the second by two.

Adam regained the advantage with a single at the third, but David’s lead stones guarded well in the fourth to give him another two shots and what looked like a significant advantage.

But the wheels well and truly came off for David’s rink in the fifth end, after a great double take-out from George Kerr gave Adam’s rink three shots and edged them ahead by five shots to four.

End six was a very busy head, with delicate shots from Team Forrest earning them a single shot to level the scores – but the seventh end finished the match as David’s rink played the same shot repeatedly without success and Adam’s rink scored five shots to win the championship.

Club president Robert Cornwell presented the James Sharp Trophy to Adam Clark and his rink of third George Kerr, second Alex Brown (standing in for Peter Proctor who could not play in the final), and lead Alan Armstrong.
