A HELENSBURGH church is to play host to a powerful adaptation of a true story from the Second World War next weekend.

The Searchlight Theatre Company’s performance of Return To The Hiding Place is being hosted at Bethesda Christian Fellowship in Colquhoun Street on Saturday, April 30.

The play is a powerful re-telling of the story of Corrie ten Boom, whose family opened the doors of their home to Jewish refugees and members of the Dutch resistance movement, creating a secret room - the ‘hiding place’ - through which it’s estimated that 800 Jewish lives were saved.

The room was eventually uncovered by the Gestapo and Corrie, her sister and her father were arrested and imprisoned in the Ravensbruck concentration camp.

There will be two performances of the play, at 2.30pm and 7pm. Tickets are available from the Coffee Corner, the Bethesda cafe, from 3-4pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, for a suggested donation of £8 (£5 for under-16s).

The play, which is not suitable for children under 12, runs for approximately 80 minutes.

Refreshments will be available and all surplus funds will be donated to the Ukraine relief effort.
