TWO gardens in Rhu will be opened to the public for the first time this weekend.
Hillcroft, in Station Road, and Stonecroft, in Ardenconnel Way, will be open from 2-5pm on Sunday, May 15 to raise money for Helensburgh and Lomond Carers and St Michael and All Angels Church.
Hillcroft is a medium-sized mature, semi-woodland garden with terraces, shrubs and borders, ponds, an alpine bed and a kitchen garden, all described by owner Fiona Baker as ‘abundant and a little on the wild side’.
Stonecroft sits on a hill overlooking the Gareloch, with lovely views and boasts mature azaleas which make a dazzling display in May.
Owners Jim and Adrienne Kerr have used flotsam, jetsam and sometimes even rubbish to create quirky landscaping and features, though a love of plants and wildlife remain the driving force.
There will be home-made teas and a plant stall. Admission is £5 for both gardens and entry for children is free.
