A SONGWRITER and singer from Cardross is setting out on a mini Scottish tour to promote her debut solo feature album.

Ainsley Hamill’s Not Just Ship Land was actually released in spring 2021, but Covid restrictions and other commitments have prevented her going on tour to showcase the album, which was inspired by the surroundings and unsung heroes of the Govan area of Glasgow – including many who became famous for reasons other than the area’s shipbuilding heritage.

Speaking to the Advertiser when the album was launched last year, Ainsley, a former pupil of Hermitage Academy who went on to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, said: "Overriding messages in the album are about equality and feminism and strong women, though there were incredibly amazing men who were part of it all as well - just humble people from normal backgrounds who achieved incredible things.”

Ainsley, who is now based in London, worked alongside BBC composer Malcolm Lindsay on the musical arrangements for the album, which is available to buy here.

Her Scottish tour starts at the Rockfield Centre in Oban on Friday, June 17, before moving on to Inverness Cathedral on June 19, and concluding at the National Piping Centre in Glasgow on Thursday, June 23.
