POLICE say they’re hopeful that a man will be reported to the fiscal in connection with an alleged serious assault in Helensburgh last week.
Officers were called to a report of a disturbance involving five men in West Clyde Street at 2.25am on Thursday, June 9.
Police say that on arrival a 27-year-old man was seen on the ground, and after speaking to the other men and viewing CCTV footage a 29-year-old man was identified as a suspect.
The younger man was taken to hospital, and both men were initially given on-the-spot fines, but after medical treatment it was found the injured man had suffered a fractured skull, and the incident was reclassified as a serious assault.
CID officers are now carrying out enquiries, including the downloading of CCTV footage, and are following a positive line of enquiry regarding the man allegedly responsible.
