COLQUHOUN Square was a hive of activity recently as people descended on the new-look Summer Festival.

The event took place on Saturday, June 18 and featured a wide range of activities and 45 stalls – with something for all ages.

Also on offer were fairground rides for youngsters, while local buskers helped put a spring in the step of visitors.

The Summer Festival was organised by the same team behind the town’s Winter Festival and helped to raise funds for the already established event.

Gail Broadhurst MBE, chair of the festival, said: “We’re delighted with how everything went at our Summer Festival.

“The great thing was that it remained busy throughout the day, which was exceptional. When it rained, people simply huddled in the stalls and waited for it to subside.

"There were lots of local people but I also spoke to people who were visiting and timed their holiday so they could come to the festival.

“We welcomed some fantastic local buskers and they ensured there was a wonderful, chilled out vibe, and it was great to have the support of Lomond Radio throughout the day.

“We received great feedback from our stallholders too; one who regularly attends the Helensburgh markets told me those were the biggest takings he’d ever had for one of those local events.”

Attention now turns to the town’s Winter Festival, with online booking for stallholders opening at the beginning of July.

Gail continued: “The Summer Festival was a fund-raiser for our Winter Festival and we’ll find out in the next few days how that has gone.

"But the event was a great success and we’re grateful to everyone who turned out to support it.”
