PLANS to transform part of a sheep farm near Loch Lomond into a quad bike activity centre have been approved – but only temporarily.

An application for planning permission for a change of use of land at Doune of Glendouglas farm, on the Glen Douglas road near Inverbeg, was submitted to the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority in May.

Planning officials have now granted permission for a change of use of the land until October 31, 2023.

A report on the application, published on the National Park’s website, states: “A temporary planning permission is deemed appropriate as the specific impacts of the proposed use on the landscape and the tranquillity of the area has not been fully established and a period for monitoring is therefore needed.

“The proposed use of the land for quad bike tours is acceptable in principle because Visitor Experience Policy 1 of the Local Development Plan supports tourism development in the countryside where this is a diversification of an existing rural business.”

A statement in support of the application, lodged by agents MH Planning Associates of Helensburgh, said the proposals would involve up to seven quad bike tours a day.

No objections were lodged, either by statutory consultees or by members of the public.
