THE Queen’s Platinum Jubilee may have passed into history, but pupils at Kilcreggan Primary have created their own lasting keepsakes of the milestone anniversary – while raising cash for their school at the same time.

Pupils from the nursery right up to P7 were involved in creating their own individual designs to mark the occasion – with each one added to a mug for the pupils to take home and enjoy.

The initiative was kicked off by Pitter Patter Potter, an arts and crafts pottery studio in Helensburgh, who offered the opportunity of creating a keepsake for the Jubilee while raising funds for the school.

Charlotte Wright, chair of the Kilcreggan Primary parent council, applied, and boxes of painting supplies and more than a hundred mugs were collected and delivered to the school – where parent helpers went along to assist the budding designers.

Mairi Benton, fund-raising lead for the parent council at Kilcreggan, said: “Children from the nursery right up to P7 were involved, bringing the designs they had drawn on paper to life on the mugs.

“It was incredible to see so many folk get involved and watch the children being creative. They were very enthusiastic about their designs and how the glazing and kiln process worked.

“All of the mugs were collected and given back to Pitter, Patter, Potter who made the magic happen and made the designs come alive.

“Both ladies from the arts and crafts studio were extremely helpful, even when more mugs were required, using up all of their stock of mugs to fulfil the amount ordered.

“It was a very successful event which was enjoyed by everyone involved and made lots of money for the school.”

The parent council also held a jumble sale and an end-of-term disco to raise further funds, with the proceeds from the events to be used to buy new benches which will be placed around the grounds of the school.
