FOUR sailors from the Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club have won the British Keelboat League’s women’s championship title.

Alison Morrish, Emily Robertson, Anna Dobson and Catherine Martin-Jones triumped at the Dubarry Aquatech Women’s Open Keelboat Championship at the Royal Southern Yacht Club in Hampshire at the weekend.

They amassed 60 points in the course of the event’s 15 races, finishing in first place in no fewer than seven races and taking a place on the podium in all but one, ediging out the Scorpion Class team of Catherine Maguire, Vicky Lincoln, Ellie Pegg and Hannah Buchanan in the battle for the crown.

Final preparations are also under way for the start of the annual Loch Long Week at Cove Sailing Club.

The week of events gets under way on Sunday, July 24. Members are being asked to keep the slipway clear of dinghies and trailers until Sunday, July 31 to allow for the movement of boats taking part in the regatta.

Football: Rhu Amateurs’ pre-season preparations continued last night (Wednesday) with a friendly for the club’s Caledonian League squad against Vale of Leven FC at Millburn Park.

The club’s ‘Caley’ side were on the road on Saturday to take on Stranraer FC’s reserves in a friendly match before taking in the Stair Park club’s Premier Sports Cup tie at home to Dundee.

Football: Rangers FC are holding summer holiday football camps at Rhu Amateurs’ Ardenconnel Park ground next week.

Classes for Baby Bears (aged 18 months to 3 years), Broxi Bears (4-6 years) and Future Bears (5-15 years) are being held each day from Monday, July 25 to Friday, July 29.

Tennis: Helensburgh Tennis Club’s men’s team have been crowned winners of Division 2A of the Dunlop West of Scotland Summer Doubles League.

The Burgh team faced an anxious wait for nearest rivals Strathgryffe to complete their league campaign; Strathgryffe had to beat Broomhill 9-0 in their final fixture, but dropped a vital set, meaning Helensburgh won the division by virtue of their win against Strathgryffe in the teams’ head-to-head match earlier in the season.

Helensburgh’s men’s over-60s team won Division 3B of their competition after completing their campaign undefeated and dropping only two sets.

Martial arts: Steven McLaren Martial Arts is holding a fun summer camp for children over three days next week.
