TWO Helensburgh tennis players have represented the town with pride in a tournament welcoming teams from across the west of Scotland.

Harry Gould and Amy Parry, of Craighelen Lawn Tennis and Squash Club, took part in the recent Carrickmines Bowl, an annual, charity mixed doubles competition staged by Tennis West of Scotland.

The 2022 event was held at Strathgryffe Tennis Club in Houston, with 23 clubs taking part in a round-robin format.

Each couple received a handicap based on the division in which they play for their club, which ensured well-balanced matches.

In 2022, it was Western Tennis Club which came out on top ahead of Lenzie Tennis Club at the competition, which also raised £1,085 for MacMillan Cancer

Relief.

A spokesperson for Tennis West of Scotland commented: “Thank you to all clubs for your support and to the host club for generously providing all indoor and outdoor courts free of charge for a worthy cause.”

Twenty three clubs from the west of Scotland took part in a round robin format based on Fast 4 sets with a normal tie break played if it reaches 3 games all.

Each couple receives a handicap based on what division they play for their club which ensures good well balanced matches and after lunch each couple plays against their opposite number giving a full days tennis to all.

Western tennis club was the overall winner on this occasion but the main beneficiary was MacMillan Cancer Support for which £1085 was raised.
