Aspiring writers have let their imaginations run wild to pen a Story in a Week.

The holiday workshop at Helensburgh Community Hub last week saw local author Robin Scott-Elliot help young writers put their ideas on paper.

It was so successful the Hub is looking at setting up a regular young writers' group.

Robin said: “It was inspiring to see the young people let their imaginations go, enjoy themselves and come up with great stories - we had everything from aliens to Marie Antoinette.

"Hopefully they’ll stay in touch and help each other keep writing because there’s real talent here.”

Hub development manager Gill Simpson said: “The Book Nook was a perfect space for writers to get their creative juices flowing and what a great opportunity to learn from a popular published author like Robin.

“We thought the workshop would be good idea for helping young people interested in writing but what I hadn’t expected was how much fun and chat they would have despite never having met before.

"It was really lovely to see them connecting with each other, coming up with suggestions for others’ work - so much so that we are now discussing how we can continue the creativity and connection, possibly with a regular young writers’ group.”

The Hub also hosted a Back to School event to help families get ready for the new year.

Helensburgh Uniform Bank and Helensburgh Nappy Library were on hand for different classes and clubs for youngsters, as well as army cadets, Pursuit of Wisdom coaching, Stringbabies for violin and viola lessons, and Helensburgh Girls' Brigade.

And Helensburgh Art Hub was also on hand ahead of starting children's classes later this month.

Karlyn Marshall, from the Art Hub, said: 'We were so pleased to be involved in the 'back to school' event at Helensburgh Community Hub.

"We had the opportunity to chat to so many adults and children about Helensburgh Art Hub and our new After School Kids Art and Craft classes starting on August 19 in Helensburgh Community Hub.

"We are looking forward to meeting lots of young people on the 19th and seeing all the wonderful art work. You can book up via our website helensburgharthub.com."

The Hub is also home to Helensburgh Youth Club every Friday evening and Fun First sessions on a Friday morning.
