The sun shone on Kirkmichael Astro on Saturday as children enjoyed playing football for a good cause.

Ballers hosted the fun day event which doubled as a drop-off and collection point for the Helensburgh and Lomond Foodbank’s ongoing efforts to help those in need.

Head coach Dale Walker was inspired to help out after finding out that 2.7 million people in the UK are now having to resort to using food banks.

“Saturday was something I have been wanting to do for sometime now and to give back as much as I can.

“We are a new company in the area and have our own philosophies on how kids should be taught football and stay humble in the process which was why I wanted to link in the food bank with football.

“These kids are our future and they are stepping into a world dominated by social media where fake lives are on show continuously, where the reality is that families are genuinely struggling financially and it’s only going to get tougher.

“No one should go hungry in this day and age. It was fantastic to see so many people coming down and supporting the day, the kids enjoyed playing football and made good use of the bouncy castle.”
