Cardross Parish Church has continued its 150th anniversary celebrations by commissioning a drawing of the building by a local artist.

Carolynn Bowman from Dumbarton, who was found by a church member on Instagram, has created a colourful and detailed depiction of the church and its grounds.

The artist has been producing pen and ink drawings of churches and other buildings in the Helensburgh and Dumbarton areas since the start of the pandemic – something which she says helps her mental health.

She said: “I was really chuffed about it all. I’m not religious, but I did grow up going to church with my mum and my brother and I love architecture, specifically church architecture.

“They used to spend a lot of money back in the day making them nice.

“I was really happy to be asked to do it because it’s something that I really enjoy doing.”

The unveiling of the artwork is the latest in a series of events marking the church's milestone anniversary.

The finished piece was accepted on behalf of the church by Rev Maggie McArthur and was shared with the congregation at a recent Sunday morning service.

She added: “We’re delighted with the painting, we think it’s beautiful.

“It’s something very different from the usual genre, so we’re delighted to offer this to the congregation and have it as part of our 150th anniversary celebrations.”

The original piece will be hung in the church, with a 50 limited edition prints – signed and numbered by Carolynn, being offered for sale to members of the congregation and community.
