Trains between Balloch and Helensburgh have been cancelled and delayed due to a broken down freight locomotive.

Scotrail confirmed that the train broke down between Dumbarton East and Bowling station at around 6.15pm this evening.

The rail company have since organised two minibuses, the first from Helensburgh Central at 7.40pm and the second leaving Dalmuir at 8.30pm.

They have since said on social media: "We've not been able to get any other buses. If you make your own arrangements, keep your tickets and receipts then contact us as scotrail.co.uk/refund. "

Meanwhile a rescue train that is capable of hauling the train is currently being sourced to ease disruptions.

The disruption is expecting to last until 10pm this evening with passengers advised to make their own travel arrangements.
