An artist from Rhu hopes her latest collection can help bring “a sense of home” to people far and wide.

Sophie Scott, 38, has produced a collection of location and travel prints which depict scenes from around the Clyde and Loch Lomond.

The series features scenes such as Tarbet, Loch Fyne, Arran, the Kyles of Bute, and Ben Lomond.

This collection follows a series of prints based on Scotland’s Hebridean islands, inspired by Sophie’s holidays to Tiree with family.

She has many fond memories of trips to her parent’s house on the island, and cruising between other Hebridean locations on their boat.

Sophie, who now lives in Warsash near Southampton, said: “When I come home at Christmas and go to my mum and dad’s in Rhu, standing looking down the Clyde just makes me feel at home.

“I hope anyone who buys the prints look at them and feel a sense of home, or a little bit of their holiday comes back to them.

“They’re meant to jog your memory and make you think, ‘that’s my happy place’. That’s what the Hebridean prints do for me.

“I have Tiree up on my wall and looking at that white sand I think, ‘god, I just can’t wait to get back there’.

“It’s bringing a bit of happiness into your home because those places evoke memories.”

After initially wanting to attend art school, Sophie had a change of heart and went to Glasgow University to study law.

Having spent much of her spare time sailing while at university, she moved to the south coast of England after graduating – but could not practice law there as her degree was in Scots Law.

She worked for friends in the marine industry for several years until the arrival of her first child, before deciding she wanted something more flexible.

The mum-of-two returned to her love of art and has now been producing and selling her own work for seven years.

She added: “I haven’t been to art school or anything so it’s all just self-taught, but I love it and it gives me flexibility to be at the school gates and work any hours I want to.”
