A PERVERTED pensioner who attacked victims on a train and in a supermarket has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register.

Johnstone man Colin Hope, 81, sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl as she travelled to Glasgow to do her Christmas shopping.

He was also found guilty of sex attacks on two supermarket workers, as well as a customer.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard how the 15-year-old victim was targeted by the twisted OAP on a train journey between Johnstone and Glasgow Central in December 2016.

Retired procurement engineer Hope boarded the crowded train at Johnstone station and stood next to the girl before putting his hand under her skirt and touching her thigh.

Evidence was also given by a woman who recalled how Hope sexually assaulted her at a Renfrewshire supermarket in July 2021, resulting in her becoming physically ill.

She explained how he approached her in one of the aisles and touched her sexually.

The woman returned to her car in tears and called her husband.

She stated that she was so upset by what had happened that she vomited after she returned home that evening.

The court also heard from a supermarket worker who told how she was sexually assaulted by Hope on December 17, 2021.

She recalled how Hope used his hand to stroke her.

During the trial, the pensioner denied any wrongdoing and told the court he had an eye condition that affected his vision.

He claimed that each of the incidents had involved accidental touching, as he would often put his hands out for balance.

When Hope returned to the dock on Thursday to be sentenced, Sheriff Ian Anderson imposed a 12-month Community Payback Order that will see him being supervised by the authorities.

He also ordered that Hope’s name be added to the Sex Offenders Register for the duration of the Community Payback Order.
